BIOGRAPHY
Jeff Curtin began playing the trumpet at age 10 in Kettering, Ohio. Since then he has played all across the United States in groups ranging from the circus to symphony orchestras. In 2009, Jeff joined the faculty of Southern Nazarene University as trumpet instructor, and held that position until 2014, when he left to pursue his doctoral studies at UMKC Conservatory in Kansas City, Missouri. He has played in orchestras in Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri.
Jeff has been a finalist in International Trumpet Guild Solo competitions and has been featured as a soloist on the NBC Sports Network. While in Oklahoma, he was a founding member of the Boulevard Brass Quintet.
An accomplished teacher, as well, Jeff’s students have been selected to some of the country’s top universities and conservatories. His students have been selected to to the Kansas City Youth Orchestra, as well as district and all-state bands (concert band and jazz band) in Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, and Kansas. Recent student successes have also included 1st place winner (multiple years) at the North American Brass Band Association solo competition as well as semi-finalist (multiple years) in the National Trumpet Competition.
Jeff completed his Bachelor of Musical Arts degree and Master of Music degree at the University of Oklahoma and his DMA at UMKC Conservatory. His primary teachers have been: Kermit Simmons, Basil Drew, Karl Sievers, William Adam, and Keith Benjamin.
